The Association to Help Children LIVER in Cracow was founded on 14th March 1991 and registered in the Provincial Court, I Civil Division in Cracow under the registration number 294. It is a non-governamental organization having the status of a legal person. It is a charity-relief organization active all over Poland. The Association holds a permit issued by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration to organize whole of Poland collection to a bank account, according to the provisions of the Legal Journal no. 22/162 of 1933 with further amendments.
The founders of the LIVER Association are Bozena and Jan Chechlinski whose little daughter, suffering from liver cirrhosis, died in 1991. After her tragic death, Mr and Mrs Chechlinski decided to help other children. The first transplant which the Association managed to arrange was made in Barcelona in 1992. The organ was obtained from a cadaver. At present, in the EU organs from cadavers cannot be given to foreign recipients, so the children go to have the so called family transplants to, among others, Brussels, Hamburg or Paris. One parent gives a part of his or her liver to a child. Such operation is possible because liver is an organ which undergoes regeneration. Unfortunately the cost of such surgery is enormous and ranges from 100 to 150 thousand US dollars.
WE APPEAL TO ALL PEOPLE OF GOOD WILL
PLEASE HELP TO SAVE THESE CHILDREN!!!
